(KSL News) The driver of a van involved in a fatal crash in San Juan County on Monday appeared in court today.
Thirty-year-old Rigoberto Salas-Lopez is charged with one count of transporting illegal immigrants resulting in death.
He was at the wheel of an SUV early Monday morning when the vehicle flipped, killing eight people inside.
Survivors of the crash say the Salas-Lopez was trying to fondle a female passenger and then got in a fight with the woman's brother, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
Today a federal magistrate court appointed a lawyer to Salas-Lopez. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance is on May 2nd
