SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Uintah County sheriff and occupational safety and health investigators are probing the death of a 32-year-old oil rig worker from Idaho on an oil rig in Utah.

Uintah County Undersheriff John Laursen said Alan J. Eichelberger of Hansen, Idaho, was wearing a hard hat, but was fatally injured when he was struck in the head by drilling equipment shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday.

Eichelberger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Laursen says Eichelberger worked for rig owner True Oil LLC for about a year and a half.
