(KSL News) Two medical residents have very different salaries. In fact, it's a difference of $4.5 million.

Why the difference? One plays a resident on TV.

Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey on "Grey's Anatomy", earned $5 million last year, while an actual resident took in just $45,000.

Parade Magazine's annual "What People Earn" report reveals other similar disparities, and found the gap between the rich and everyone else is growing.

For example, Chef Rachael Ray seen on KSL made $6 million in 2006, while a personal chef from Albuquerque earned $67,000.

And an office manager from Naples, Florida brought home just $29,000 compared to Steve Carell's $9 million. Carell plays office manger Michael Scott on NBC's "The Office."

Some of the other jobs looked at are baseball player, singer, show host, volcanologist, a doughnut fryer, a taxidermist and a bronco rider from South Dakota.
