Nick Gorneault doubled home Kendry Morales with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, as the Salt Lake Bees edged the Las Vegas 51s 4-3 to open the 2007 PCL season. With one out, Morales singled off Chin-Hui Tsao (0-1) and Gorneault followed with a shot off the top of the left field wall.
Alex Serrano (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win. Starter Kasey Olenberger went six innings and allowed three runs, one earned on seven hits. Morales had two hits and scored two runs to lead the Bees, who won their fourth straight season opener. Jeff Mathis had a run scoring double, while Mike Eylward and Matt Brown each added an RBI for Salt Lake.
