SALT LAKE CITY -- DNA tests have led to the arrest of a convicted sex offender in connection with a 2006 sexual assault, the Deseret News reports.
Prosecutors say DNA evidence taken from the alleged victim matched the DNA profile of Guadalupe Cuevas-Sotelo, 35, who was in the state's DNA database.
The Deseret News says the victim had reported waking up to a man trying to rape her but could not identify her attacker because he placed a towel over head and did not speak.
Sotelo was convicted in 2006 of attempted rape, sexual abuse of a child and burglary in connection with another incident.
Charges against Cuevas-Sotelo were filed Monday in 3rd District Court. He faces rape and aggravated burglary charges.
