Tom Callan, KSL NewsradioFirst quarter fundraising figures are in for the presidential candidates, and Mitt Romney is near the top of the money totem poll. Some call it the first primary, the money chase for White House hopefuls. For the first quarter, Mitt collected $23 million.
University of Utah political scientist Matt Burbank says it is all about expectations. "That's quite an impressive number. The real question is going to be, of course, what have his competitors raised?"
Romney was not far behind Hillary's $26 million. Giuliani raised about $15 million. According to Burbank, "What this shows is some level of support. Even though we know it's not a perfect predictor of who gets votes, it is important in terms of who gets attention from the media."
