(KSL News) Several fire crews responded to a fire at a busy Salt Lake hotel tonight.

Heavy smoke and flames filled parts of the second story of the Days Inn at 3300 South 300 West just after 7 p.m. The flames trapped several people upstairs.

"We had to rescue some people off the second story," explained Chief Steve Foote of the South Salt Lake Fire Department. "Again, we had a situation where people were ready to jump."

Everyone got out safely.

The fire destroyed four rooms, and smoke damaged several others.

Investigators don't know yet what started the fire.
