SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Transit Authority's budget for training employees in its 64 departments in 2010 is nearly $300,000.

This year's budget for training is down about 20 percent, and further cuts could occur. Some passengers have complained about the training budget remaining intact at a time routes are being cut.

The amount represents almost a tenth of the total savings of $3 million the UTA hopes to achieve by trimming bus and train routes starting Monday.

The amount of funding for training varies by department.

The financial services department receives none, but $20,000 goes to the "board coordination" department which consists of employees who serve the UTA Board of Trustees.
