(KSL News) Stan Lockhart, the chairman of the Utah Republican Party, has been added to the list of Republican Party insiders and lawmakers implicated in the scandal surrounding the state treasurer's race.
According to a report in today's Deseret News, consultant Dave Hansen confirmed he spoke to Richard Ellis at Lockhart's request about the race.
Hansen says Lockhart only wanted to know if Ellis planned to stay in the race after the state convention. But Ellis says Hansen told him "he'd be taken care of if he dropped out."
Ellis believes the conversation referred to a massive pay raise also offered by opponent Mark Walker to drop out.
State criminal and legislative ethics investigations into the claims have just started.
