AVON, Cache County — One outbuilding was burned after a fire broke out in Scare Canyon Monday morning, fire officials said.

Crews responded to a report of a fire in the canyon east of Avon about 10 a.m., according to Jason Winn, fire marshal for Cache County Fire District.

He said a cabin was initially threatened by the fire, but firefighters were able to keep the fire away from the cabin. Some sort of outbuilding was burned during that effort, Winn added.

While Utah Fire Info reported that the fire was 50 acres, Winn said the fire is approximately 1 1/2 acres in size and that crews believed they could be able to contain the fire by Monday afternoon, Winn said. No other structures were being threatened as of 1 p.m.

U.S. Forest Service crews and a helicopter were assisting in fighting the fire. The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known and no injuries were reported.

In Utah County, a second fire ignited Monday evening on West Mountain.

Fire crews responded to the blaze shortly after 8 p.m., according to Utah County Fire Capt. Nathan Trujillo.

The fire burned an estimated 15-20 acres and was 50 percent contained by 10 p.m.

Crews expect to have the fire 100 percent contained by midnight, Trujillo said.

Investigators believe the fire was human caused and are working to determine the exact cause.
