Ogden police investigating after body found at 21st Street Pond

OGDEN — Police are investigating a suspicious death after they say the body of a man was found with "significant trauma" at the 21st Street Pond Thursday morning.

The body was found shortly after 4 a.m., according to Ogden Police Lt. Clint Christensen. Ogden police wrote in a news release that police had responded to a report of an unresponsive male near the Ogden River Parkway trail.

"There is trauma to the body," Ogden Police Capt. Danielle Croyle said. "We're not going to comment on that due to the fact that we are waiting on the autopsy to confirm cause of death, but there was visible trauma on the body."

Police didn't release the man's name, but Croyle said they believe he was in his mid-20s to early 30s. She said police don't believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

"We think this might be an isolated incident, maybe some form of an altercation or an accident," Croyle said.

Police said Weber-Morgan Homicide Task Force and crime scene investigators were assisting in the investigation. Croyle said they are working to figure out if the man had been camping out in that area, as police have noticed an increase in people camping near the pond as Salt Lake City leaders have intensified efforts to curb criminal activity in their downtown homeless population.

As they go forward in the investigation, Ogden police hope someone who might have been in this area can help them put the pieces together.

"I know that they have a couple of witnesses that they are interviewing at this time, but there's not significant leads, and we're still looking for significant leads to help us in this case," Croyle said.
