OREM — A 23-year-old motorcyclist from Saudi Arabia died Saturday night after he crashed into a car that had pulled out ahead of him, police said.

The crash took place just after 9 p.m. near 300 S. State, Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez said.

Two men on sportbikes were driving south on State Street at a high speed, Martinez said. A Ford Expedition carrying a family turned left across the southbound lanes of State Street to go north, he said.

One of the bikers collided with the Expedition near the back tire, Martinez said. The rider was wearing a helmet, but did not brake before he hit the car.

It was estimated that the biker was going about 70 miles per hour when the crash took place, Martinez said. He was declared dead on the scene.

The other biker was able to stop before he hit the car, according to Martinez. A woman who was in the Expedition was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Martinez said it didn’t appear that the bikers were racing, and there were no signs of impairment. Any potential criminal charges for the people involved in the crash had yet to be announced, he added.

Southbound lanes of State Street were closed for several hours as investigators processed the crash scene. Orem Fire Department and Utah County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the crash investigation, Martinez said.

Editor's note: Police initially said the motorcyclist was 20 years old but later said he was 23.
