SALT LAKE CITY — First we had the Harlem Shake. Then we had the Ice Bucket Challenge. And then came the Mannequin Challenge.
But if you've been on Facebook at all over the past month, you'd know the newest "challenge" that's taking over social media is the "Lip-Sync Challenge." But this time, don't worry, you're probably not going to be forced into participating by your one friend who loves everything viral. This time the challenge is just for police officers.
All summer, police departments across the country have been challenging each other to post videos where they dance and lip-sync along to popular songs. The videos are usually extremely cheesy and, no offense, not very good. But everyone loves them anyway because it's not every day that you get to see a group of police officers sing and dance to Carly Rae Jepsen.
You may remember a few weeks ago when we got to watch the West Jordan Police Department engage in an epic lip-sync battle against the West Jordan Fire Department and the real challenge was to see if you could make it through the video without smiling, but today I am here to show you a lip-sync challenge video to end all lip-sync challenge videos.
The Salt Lake Police Department posted their version of the challenge Thursday, and it's an absolutely amazing, donut-filled rendition of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball." In the video, the department lip-syncs to the emotional, heartfelt ballad, but instead of directing the wrenching song at a long-lost love, the officers direct it at ... donuts. Yep. Banbury Cross Donuts, to be exact.
It's hilarious and you're going to love it. I have literally no authority to do this, but I'd like to declare the Salt Lake City Police Department the winners of the 2018 Police Lip-Sync Challenge. Congrats. You guys really "wrecked" the competition. (Pun intended).
