Juab High School Band honors neighbor's son

"My neighbor lost her son last year unexpectedly and now lives alone. She has struggled to live her everyday life. Her son was a Marine and it was his birthday. She wanted to do something special to honor him. Our high school band practices each week and goes up the street a block away from her house. She got the idea and asked them if they knew the Marine anthem. This (is) what she got today! Full uniform!"

Officer's sacrifice pays off

A Park City police officer rescued a stray dog from a dumpster by coaxing the pup using a rice crispy treat. The Four Seasons Concierge then posted on their Facebook page that they were so impressed and wanted to do something special for the officer.

Lost guinea pig survives 'wilderness' and is reunited with owner

Cairo E.

"One day, my guinea pig Tiger escaped near the rose bushes in our backyard. She wasn't even two months old and she was gone! I searched frantically and asked my friends Jude and Carter to help. They arrived and then we got a whole search party together! There were tears, prayers and lots more desperate searching. We kids stayed up til 10 p.m. looking for Tiger and then started early again the next morning, but there was no sign of her.

I checked online, and a website said guinea pigs only live 24 hours out of captivity, so we really needed to find Tiger. My mom and dad told me guinea pigs aren’t like dogs and can’t find their way home. They said I should prepare for Tiger not to come back, even though it was hard. I tried not to think about the cats and dogs that be might hunting her in the woods behind our house.

For three days, my friends and I kept searching for Tiger. Jude, Carter and I never gave up hope. We searched in neighbors’ yards, brought toys for Tiger and left out food and a blanket for her. And then, on Monday, Tiger miraculously came home. Jude said, “I heard squeaking in the rose bushes. I thought, WAIT! THAT’S TIGER!” For ten minutes we tried to grab Tiger until Jude’s mom came, cornered Tiger AND PICKED HER UP! Tiger had a rip in her ear and looked a little ragged, but she was alive, against the odds. She had survived three days in the wilderness. Eventually, I ended up adopting her sister Daisy too, and I never let them near the rose bushes!"
