MURRAY — Police identified an elderly woman on Monday who died after she was struck by a car when her husband accidentally hit the gas pedal Sunday afternoon.

Murray police detective Kenny Bass said Sophie Ranglack, 96, of Murray, died from injuries suffered in the incident.

Police responded to a report of an auto-pedestrian crash near 5900 South and LaSalle Drive shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, according to Murray Police Sgt. Ross Huff.

Huff said Ranglack had gotten out of the car she was in to open the garage door at their home when her husband, who is also in his 90s, mistakenly hit the gas pedal and struck her. Ranglack was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bass added police are investigating the case as "a tragic accident."
