The boy, who family identified as Roman Dean Bird, was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition after his family found him in a pond near 8500 S. Grambling Way, Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielson said at the time.
Bird died Sunday and a funeral was held Wednesday, according to the obituary. He was born in Shawnee, Kansas, but had recently moved to Utah.
“All who met Roman would comment on his beauty and special spirit," the family wrote. "There was a light about him that could not be diminished. He loved life and loved being a part of his family.”
A GoFundMe page* was set up to help medical and funeral costs. The page has raised more than $25,000 since it was set up on June 7.
