SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Animal-welfare advocates in southern Utah are offering a $7,000 reward for information about people suspected to have shot local animals.
Animal rescue clinic director Kelli Stokes says she had heard reports of multiple animals being shot in recent months near the border town of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona, which for years had been dominated by a polygamous community.
Her organization, called RSQ Dogs, began offering the reward this month after a dog and a cat were found in the same week with gunshot wounds. Both animals have survived the injuries and are recovering.
Stokes says she hopes the reward discourages people from hurting cats and dogs.
The St. George-based RSQ Dogs has raised $2,000 for the reward and the Humane Society of the United States contributed an additional $5,000.
