RIVERTON — A 3-year-old who was found in a pool Sunday has died, officials confirmed Monday.

Riley Northrop died a day after being found unconscious in a pool, Unified police officials confirmed on Twitter. "Her organs have been donated so others may live," officials said.

About 1:20 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a residence near 12700 South and Timpview Drive. The toddler went missing briefly for five to 10 minutes before her 20-year-old sister found the girl had walked over to her neighbor's house and climbed a ladder into their above-ground pool, said Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen.

Riley's sister performed CPR on the child until police and rescue crews arrived at the scene. Within minutes an officer took over CPR while paramedics were en route, Hansen said.

The girl was transported by to a nearby hospital by ambulance, then flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital in critical and unstable condition, Hansen said.

Unified officials offered condolences to the toddler family Monday.

“Our hearts go out to the family during this very difficult time,” officials said.

Riley's family is asking other parents to keep eyes on their own children at all times, especially around water, Unified officials said.

Editor's note: Police initially stated the toddler's age to be 2 1/2 years old. This article has been edited to show the correct age.
