BRIGHAM CITY — A 911 call regarding a fire at a trailer home that left one man dead and another critically injured captured the dramatic moments before firefighters arrived on scene.
“There’s somebody on fire actually right now stepping outside. I need help,” a woman who called 911 frantically told an emergency dispatcher in the moment. She then told the dispatcher she was going to get a hose before she desperately yelled to others in the trailer park for help.
The caller becomes more emotional as she waits for authorities and is inaudible at points. She asks the man who was on fire if he is OK after he is no longer on fire.
“He’s pretty badly burned,” the caller said before officers arrived on scene.
The injured man, who was not identified by authorities, was taken to Brigham City Community Hospital before he was flown to the University of Utah Burn Center in critical condition. He remained in critical condition Thursday, said Brigham City Fire Chief Joseph Bach.
Kenneth Beach, 83, died in the fire, Bach confirmed. The cause of the fire was listed as undetermined Thursday, and Bach said the fire remains under investigation.
“It could be awhile,” he added.
There was no reason for investigators to believe the fire was suspicious with the information currently obtained, Bach added.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the home, 1060 S. Main, before 8:45 a.m. An 11-second dashboard footage provided by the Brigham City Fire Department shows crews arrived on the scene of the blaze saw flames were shooting from the windows and roof of the home.
The fire was put out within 20 minutes of the initial call. Beach’s body was located in the home afterward.
Bach said Tuesday that the home did not have any working smoke detectors.
