SPANISH FORK — A body found in a vehicle on private farmland was identified as a man who went missing more than a year ago, authorities said Tuesday.

The body of Steven Reed Terry, who was 39 when he disappeared, was found in an abandoned vehicle on a farm near Spanish Fork Monday, Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.

An autopsy was performed on Tuesday, and Terry’s death was ruled a suicide, Cannon said.

Terry was last seen near his home in Spanish Fork on April 26, 2017. Authorities struggled in their search because the man’s phone had either been turned off or the battery had died. A week later, volunteers and authorities used drones to search near Spanish Oaks Reservoir.

Cannon said it would have been difficult for searchers to spot the body.

“There’s a lot of people who drive through the area, but it would be uncommon for someone to get close enough to the place where this body was found to see it without making an extra effort to see it,” he said. “You would have to specifically go to this car and look in the car closely to see it.”
