PROVO — After wrapping up its 10th-straight conference championship Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Loyola Marymount, the BYU softball team learned its regional opponent Sunday.

The Cougars will head to Eugene, Oregon, for the University of Oregon-hosted pod that also contains Drake and Albany, the NCAA selection committee announced Sunday night on ESPN2.

The Cougars will play Drake at 4 p.m. MT Thursday, May 17 at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. The winner will play the winner of the hosts and Albany in the regional’s winner’s bracket final.

The Bulldogs (43-10) won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament title, and are led by ace Nicole Newman (21-3) in the circle.

The Cougars finished the regular season at 35-20. The schedule includes marquee wins over Stanford and Northwestern, as well as a 13-1 mark in West Coast Conference play.

"We are excited to be playing in the NCAA tournament again this season," BYU coach Gordon Eakin said in a statement from the school. "Oregon has passionate fans and is one of the best softball venues in the country. It’s a strong regional and will be a great test. We are ready."
