ST. GEORGE — A man was arrested after police say he broke into and vandalized the LDS Church's St. George Temple early Saturday morning.

Charles Gregory Logan, 22, was booked into the Washington County Jail on suspicion of several charges related to the break-in, including assault and burglary, according to jail documents. He has since been released from custody after posting bond.

Eric Hawkins, spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said Logan broke a window to get into the temple at about 5 a.m. Saturday. He then went to the fifth floor of the temple and damaged furniture, artwork and some other items, Hawkins said.

Temple workers were able to contain Logan until police arrived. The temple workers did not use any physical restraint, Hawkins said.

The damage to the temple was "being addressed," Hawkins said. The temple was closed for a time but resumed normal operations at about 10:30 a.m.
