SANTAQUIN — An Illinois man led police on a 25-mile, 130-miles per hour chase on I-15 on Tuesday morning while a baby was in the back seat of his car, according to a jail report released Wednesday.

David Lloyd Jr., 25, was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was booked into Juab County Jail for investigation of multiple criminal charges including speeding, possession of marijuana, failing to stop for a police officer, endangering a child and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, according to the report.

About 7 a.m. Tuesday, a Juab County sheriff’s deputy stopped Lloyd, who was driving a black Dodge Charger, on I-15 northbound about 7 miles south of Nephi. The trooper stopped Lloyd because he was driving 99 miles per hour on the freeway, according to the jail report.

When the trooper approached the car, he could smell marijuana. The trooper told Lloyd he was going to search the car. The trooper asked everyone to get out of the car, but Lloyd refused to get out, saying he wanted to wait until another officer got to the scene, according to the report. A passenger was also in the car, as well as a baby in the back seat.

Lloyd then rolled up the car window, shifted the car into drive and fled. The trooper continued following Lloyd at speeds up to 130 miles per hour, according to the report.

Lloyd passed several cars on the shoulder of the road as he traveled more than 20 miles on the highway, eventually stopping on the right side of the highway in Utah County near milepost 242, just south of Santaquin.

When he got out of the car, Lloyd took several rifle cases out of the trunk and threw them over a fence near the shoulder of the road, according to the jail report. He climbed over the fence and ran off into brush and trees in the foothills nearby.

Lloyd eventually was found after a SWAT team search. He surrendered and was arrested without further incident, the report states.

When law enforcement officials searched the car, they found a small amount marijuana, as well as multiple drug paraphernalia, according to the report. The three rifle cases Lloyd threw over the fence contained three shotguns.

Lloyd later admitted to officers that all the marijuana and paraphernalia belonged to him, and admitted to recently smoking marijuana, according to the report.

A criminal history check revealed that he was not allowed to have firearms, according to the jail report.
