SALT LAKE CITY — Utah State football will play the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 3, 2022, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The Aggies will receive $1,910,000 from Alabama to play in this game. This is the third highest dollar total a visiting college football team has ever been paid.
Former ESPN reporter and current college football insider Brett McMurphy broke the news.
The Aggies have traveled to Tuscaloosa to play the Crimson Tide on two other occasions, both of which were losses. The Crimson Tide defeated the Aggies 48-17 in 2004 and 35-3 in 2005.
The Crimson Tide are the defending national champions and model for success in college football. They have won five national championships under head coach Nick Saban since 2009.
Utah State on the other hand, has struggled over the last few seasons. The Aggies’ last winning season came in 2014 when they went 10-4. Since 2015, the Aggies have a combined record of 15-23.
Despite their recent lack of success, Utah State is a not a stranger to high-profile games against high-powered opponents. The Aggies played at Oklahoma in 2010, at USC in 2013 and 2016 and at Wisconsin in 2017.
The Aggies played at Auburn in 2012 and at Tennessee in 2014. Auburn and Tennessee are both members of the same conference as Alabama, the Southeastern Conference or SEC.
In their history, the Aggies have played 18 games against SEC opponents. In those games, the Aggies have a record of 1-17. Utah State’s one and only win against an SEC opponent came in 1970 against Kentucky.
