PROVO — A Vineyard man was convicted by a jury in 4th District Court Monday for repeatedly sodomizing and raping his fiancee's 8-year-old daughter over the course of eight months.

Oscar Alonso Nuñez, 35, was found guilty on two counts of sodomy upon a child, two counts of rape of a child and one count of attempted sodomy upon a child, each first-degree felonies.

The conviction was delivered after a four-day trial and 15 hours of deliberation, according to a statement released by the Utah County Attorney's Office.

Nuñez was charged with all five counts in November 2015 after an accused incident earlier in the month, according to charging documents at the time. The girl was the daughter of Nuñez's fiancee at the time and told police that Nuñez had raped her.

However, the child said the sexual assaults began in Wyoming "almost immediately after the child was introduced to the defendant," according to a police affidavit filed in 2015.

In one of the documented incidents, the girl said Nuñez raped her shortly after they moved to Utah and before they had unpacked boxes.

Nuñez was booked into the Utah County Jail and is scheduled to be sentenced June 6. His charges carry a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years to life in Utah State Prison, officials said.
