STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR — Both directions of U.S. 40 reopened near Strawberry Reservoir in Wasatch County several hours after a semitruck pup trailer rolled and caught fire Wednesday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol officials said the truck’s pup trailer rolled in the crash around 7:30 a.m. and started on fire, but the driver was able to disconnect the truck from the trailer to prevent further damage.

No injuries were reported in the crash, authorities added. However, it did create traffic problems for highway commuters.

Westbound lanes of the highway did not reopen until about 3:45 p.m., Utah Department of Transportation Region 3 officials said. The crash and fire closed both highway lanes for more than two hours until officials opened the eastbound lane for alternating traffic shortly before 10 a.m.

Wasatch County fire crews responded to the fire and helped control the flames. Images from the agency show the pup trailer was fully engulfed after the crash.

A hazmat team also responded to the scene to help clean up any environmental impact from the crash.
