HOUSTON — Utah’s pro women’s soccer team kept its unbeaten regular season alive in Week 2.
Goalkeeper Abby Smith picked up her first shutout of the season, and Utah Royals FC earned a road point with a 0-0 draw against the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday night.
The Royals (0-0-2) outshot the host Dash 9-7, including a 6-0 advantage in shots on goal. But Dash goalkeeper and U.S. international Jane Campbell was up to the task each time, including punching out a free kick by Gunny Jonsdottir near the top-left corner in the 28th minute.
Brooke Elby, a first-half sub who replaced Becca Moros in the 34th minute, blasted a shot on goal about 65 minutes in. But Campbell again was up to the task.
Campbell finished the night with five saves for Houston (0-0-2).
Utah returns home to its home opener April 14 against the Chicago Red Stars. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. MDT at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The Royals opened the season a week ago with a 1-1 draw at Orlando.
A point a side to kickoff Week 2 #NWSL action.
