THE WORLD WIDE WEB — Earlier this month, the internet lost a hero.

On March 8, Bento the cat, otherwise known as "Keyboard Cat," died of cancer. The cats (and humans) of the internet mourned together in his honor, and today we're remembering Bento with this look back on his influential life.

Keyboard Cat was beloved by many for his catchy covers of popular songs and his charming personality.

Keyboard Cat loved to dance, celebrate "Catsgiving" and play the piano, of course. His owner Charlie Schmidt says he and the cat have similar personalities — they both like having their pictures taken and being in the limelight. In the video, Schmidt shares how he adopted Bento from a shelter in 2010 and soon noticed that Bento had a love of the spotlight just like Schmidt's previous cat, Fatso, the original Keyboard Cat.

After hearing about Bento's passing, other internet famous cats like Grumpy Cat shared their respects, and the comments on the Washington Post's tribute video are filled with people mourning the world's loss of this great feline.

"Bento was a pioneer and an artist ahead of his time," one commenter wrote. "Thank you for your contribution to the world. R.I.P Bento."

Though the world may never be the same without Bento, Keyboard Cat will live on in our hearts forever.
