SALT LAKE CITY — Now that we’ve all caught the March Madness bug, it’s time to continue our pursuit for the most prominent Utahn — a task to be taken 100 percent seriously. No jokes. All business.

The first round of the tournament had a lot of lopsided victories, with the former BYU football coach LaVell Edwards claiming the largest win with 97 percent of the votes against Florence Allen. Could that be indicative of a deep run in the tournament?

The matchups for the round of 32 will only get more interesting, with several big names going toe-to-toe in the early round. LaVell Edwards will try to keep his momentum against John Willard Marriott; Rick Majerus will go against a long-time University of Utah supporter in Jon Huntsman Sr. for the battle of the U.

Can Martha Hughes Cannon continue her winning momentum following the most recent Utah legislative session and get a win over Val Browning? And will the author, Stephen Covey, overtake TV inventor Philo T. Farnsworth?

As you go into the round of 32, remember to have some fun with it. The vote is for the most prominent Utahn, but vote for whatever reason you may have.

A reminder of the rules:

  • The 64 individuals identified in this bracket are certainly not the only famous Utahns or ones with Utah ties. We most likely missed a name you feel should be added to the list, but the simple answer is: they're not in the poll. Utahns that are alive do not qualify for this poll.
  • Selected individuals were listed alphabetically in a spreadsheet and then I clicked a fancy button on the computer to randomize the list to make the seeding "fair." I did this five times to ensure a random seeding order.
  • Vote on as many devices as humanly possible, but please don’t cheat. Remember, please no bot making to game the polls. Give us a few more years, at least, until the robots fully take over our lives.
  • Voting will go throughout the day and will end at midnight. All votes cast after midnight will not be counted toward the actual votes. Screenshots will be taken of each poll with a timestamp to avoid issues. Due to the amount of teams in the initial rounds, the timestamp may read a few minutes after midnight.
  • Individuals receiving the most votes will move onto the next round. The Sweet 16 round will be released Wednesday, with the Elite 8 vote taking place the following Friday.
