SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with an early-morning shooting in South Salt Lake that resulted in one person dead and two others injured.

Police apprehended Isaiah Lucas, of West Jordan, later Saturday, according to South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller.

The shooting took place about 3:30 a.m. Saturday at Mountain Shadow Apartments near 3700 S. 700 West. Authorities temporarily closed 700 West from 3700 South to 3900 South as police investigated the shooting

There was a party going on in an apartment earlier in the night and an argument broke out. The argument calmed down but then re-erupted earlier Saturday morning, and shots were fired, Keller said.

When police arrived at the scene they found two men with gunshot wounds. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified by police as Patrick Andrews, 24, of South Salt Lake.

The other man, who police only identified as a 25-year-old from Sunset, was transported to a nearby hospital. A short time later, an 18-year-old woman from Murray who was also at the apartment complex arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound, Keller said. Both were in serious to critical condition earlier Saturday.

Several agencies were assisting South Salt Lake police, including West Valley City Police, Unified police, Utah Transit Authority police and the Metro Gang Unit. Canine units also were searching the area for evidence.

Keller did not say if the shooting was gang-related.

Lucas was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; and three counts of felony discharge of a firearm.

Formal charges from the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office are pending.

Police are hoping to talk to anyone who was at the party for information about the shooting, Keller said. Anyone who has was at the party is asked to call South Salt Lake police at 801-840-4000.
