LOGAN — Criminal charges were filed Tuesday against a Logan High School teacher who police say was caught partially dressed inside a car with a teenage girl.
Joseph Scott Harris, 57, of Nibley, Cache County, is charged in 2nd District Court with six counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony.
Harris was arrested last week when Weber County sheriff's deputies investigating a suspicious vehicle in West Haven found Harris and a 15-year-old girl inside the car "in various states of undress," according to charging documents.
The girl told police that the two had engaged in "multiple incidents of sexual activity" since the beginning of the year, the charges state.
Harris told investigators he met the girl online and thought she was 19, "but admitted (she) looked young," according to court documents.
Harris was placed on suspension from the school district on Friday pending the outcome of the police investigation. He teaches skills and technical sciences, according to the school's website. Students say he also teaches broadcasting classes.
An initial court appearance is scheduled for March 1.
