WILLARD, Box Elder County — Two people were critically injured in a crash in Box Elder County on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

At about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, a 21-year-old woman was driving a Mazda Protege east on 8700 South in the south Willard area, Utah Highway Patrol officials said. A 20-year-old man was a passenger in the car.

The woman stopped at a stop sign and then pulled out in front of a Dodge Ram pickup that was traveling south on state Route 89, according to UHP officials.

The truck crashed into the driver’s side of the Mazda, which caused the Mazda to spin off the right side of the road, according to UHP. The impact of the crash threw the passenger of the Mazda, who was not wearing a seatbelt, into the driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, highway patrol officials reported.

The two people in the Mazda were flown by helicopter to area hospitals, both in extremely critical condition, UHP said.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Officials did not provide the identity of those involved in the accident, but said the driver of the Mazda was in her first trimester of pregnancy.
