WEST VALLEY CITY — A 15-year-old was arrested in connection with a shooting that left a California man dead and two others injured Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Charles Baker, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old boy was also shot in the torso and a 38-year-old man was shot multiple times. One of the two injured was listed in critical but stable condition and the other's injuries were stabilized as of Wednesday afternoon, said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.
She added the 15-year-old boy was questioned by police before he was booked into juvenile detention in relation to the shooting. He was not identified because of his age.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex at 3510 W. Parkway Blvd. about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to Vainuku.
Investigators believe there was an altercation involving multiple people prior to the shooting. However, it was unclear what led up to the altercation, she said. The case remains under investigation.
Vainuku added Baker had been staying at the apartment.
Anyone with additional information about the case is encouraged to call West Valley police at 801-840-4000.
