SARATOGA SPRINGS — Firefighters rescued a dog Tuesday after it fell through the ice at the north end of Utah Lake.
The incident happened about 1:15 p.m. The owner, who was out on the ice with the dog, was unable to rescue the animal and called for help, said Saratoga Springs Fire Capt. Kenny Johnson.
Two ice rescue team members went onto the ice and were able to rescue the dog.
Johnson says both the owner and dog are safe. Once rescue crews were able to warm the dog back up, "everybody was OK."
Lone Peak Fire Chief Reed Thompson discussed ice safety during a recent training exercise, cautioning community members to "stay off the ice" in general. While it may look thick, he said, "the strength may not be there."
