WEST VALLEY CITY — A photographer is hoping to find the skiers caught on video recovering his GoPro camera.

Brian Smyer of Smyer Image said he was trying to capture some video at Snowbasin Resort on Jan. 16 by attaching a GoPro to his ski when the camera went flying and disappeared into the snow.

“I hit a jump and it came off and by the time I got back to it, I couldn’t find it or it was gone,” Smyer said.

The GoPro, which continued to record while face-up on the slope, captured some teen skiers approach it and pick it up.

“You’re welcome,” one of the teens exclaimed in the video. “We found it!”

The teens subsequently returned the camera to the ski resort, Smyer said, but never revealed who they were.

“It was good proof that those kids had good integrity,” Smyer said. “It was also nice to know that there are still people around with integrity that are willing to do the right thing.”

Smyer said he’d like to reward the teens with a photo shoot.

“What mother doesn’t like family pictures for a present,” he said. “Knowing that your son earned those while doing a good deed — I thought that would really be the cherry on top.”

Smyer also suggested the possibility of an action photo shoot, since ski photography is one of his specialties.

“I figured I could go ride with his crew and get some professional photos for them and that might be pretty fun,” he said.

The teens’ appearances were concealed by ski helmets and sunglasses.

Smyer said anybody who believes they know who the teens are can reach out to him via email at brian@smyerimage.com.
