CHARLESTON, Wasatch County — One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 189 near Deer Creek Reservoir Monday evening.
Troopers responded a report of a crash about 2 miles south of Charleston around 5:15 p.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol officials.
Early evidence shows that a Chevy Trailblazer heading north crossed into the southbound lanes, according to UHP. A southbound Toyota Camry swerved to avoid a collision, but the two vehicles ended up in an almost head-on crash.
The driver of the Camry died on scene, and the driver of the Trailblazer was critically injured and taken to a nearby hospital, UHP officials said.
Troopers did not release the names or ages of those involved in the collision, and are are trying to contact family members, according to UHP officials.
It is not yet clear why the Trailblazer crossed into the southbound lanes.
