SALT LAKE CITY — A small airplane en route to Salt Lake City Thursday is believed to have crashed somewhere in Nevada’s Ruby Mountains, officials report.
The Elko County Sheriff’s office received a call reporting a downed plane late Thursday and began searching the area by helicopter, according to Elko County Sheriff’s Sgt. Nick Czegledi. Search crews, including a fixed-wing aircraft, continued their efforts Friday Saturday but were unsuccessful.
Officials plan to continue the search on Sunday using a rotary helicopter to fly “low and slow,” Czegledi said.
The plane, carrying only the pilot, was believed to be flying to Salt Lake City from California.
Officials have not released the missing pilot’s name, age or gender.
