DRAPER — The Utah State Prison remained on lockdown Thursday as police investigated a fight among gang-affiliated inmates that sent three inmates to the hospital.
The three were injured when a fight broke out among eight inmates in a day room in the Uinta Facility on Wednesday evening, said Utah Department of Corrections spokeswoman Maria Peterson.
The brawl "involved the use of inmate-manufactured weapons," which prison staff recovered afterward, Peterson said.
The three injured inmates were stabilized at an area hospital and were reported to be awake and alert Thursday, she said. The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
The Department of Corrections did not release the names of the inmates involved in the fight. Unified police are participating in the investigation.
No other staff or inmates were injured.
The Uinta Facility is the prison's maximum security facility. It currently houses 650 male inmates.
