SANDY — South Towne Expo Center is getting a new moniker.
The convention hall will be renamed the Mountain America Expo Center during a ceremony at the facility on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at noon. The renaming rights are part of a 10-year $3.9 million agreement with Salt Lake County, which will retain ownership of the facility.
“We’re pleased to partner with Mountain America Credit Union at our Sandy convention and meeting facility. They are all about serving their members, just as Salt Lake County is all about serving the Wasatch Front community with a premier facility for business and family events, meetings, exhibits and shows. It’s a great example of a public/private partnership,” Mayor Ben McAdams said in a statement.
The 258,000-square-foot venue hosts 700,000 visitors and more than 270 events annually, including consumer conventions, community-based conferences, trade shows, career and health fairs, training seminars, banquets and parties.
According to the statement, the partnership will allow Mountain America to host quarterly financial seminars, giving the local community more access to financial education resources.
Additionally, Mountain America members will receive promotional benefits for select events, and the agreement will also provide visitors access to multiple ATMs that will be added throughout the venue.
“Mountain America is pleased to partner with Salt Lake County,” Mountain America CEO Sterling Nielsen said in the statement. “This partnership will allow us to further support the community in financial literacy efforts while maintaining our commitment to being a strong financial provider in the Intermountain West.”
