LAYTON — When a 17-year-old boy accused of shooting and killing a 19-year-old man during a marijuana drug deal was arrested, police found a shed filled with weapons and pills, according to recently released search warrant affidavits.
Three search warrants reveal new details about the investigation into the death of Hunter Woodson.
On Nov. 21, police say Seth Carreras tried to purchase marijuana from Woodson at Woodson's home in Sunset. When Woodson attempted to sell Carreras spices instead of marijuana, Carreras pulled out a gun and fired multiple times, according to charging documents.
Seven shell casings were recovered by police inside Woodson's home, the affidavits state.
After the shooting, Carreras — who was later charged as an adult with murder — fled with another 15-year-old boy, according to police. Woodson's girlfriend, who was also in the room, told police that Carreras had shot him, the warrant states.
Officers from the Utah Highway Patrol, Layton police and the Davis County Sheriff's Office all responded to Carreras' home. When they arrived, they found him still sitting in his car in the driveway. He exited and "crawled underneath a second vehicle in the driveway" before being taken into custody, according to the affidavits. Police say a Glock handgun was also found under the second vehicle.
Officers then noticed a shed in the backyard.
"Upon opening the door to the shed, a male sitting on a chair inside the shed was holding a sword and dropped it, then was taken into custody," the warrants state.
Deputies also noticed "hundreds of bottles with just as many pills on a shelf in the shed" in addition to drug paraphernalia.
"Both individuals at the time of detention less than an hour after the incident showed signs of impairment, and both individuals had a strong odor of marijuana," police noted in the warrants.
A search of the car in the driveway and the shed resulted in detectives finding two machetes, a second gun and ammunition in a backpack in the shed, three pellet guns, a box of knives, three cellphones and various pills, according to the warrants.
It was not immediately known Monday if the 15-year-old was charged in juvenile court. Carreras, who is being held without bail in the Davis County Jail, is scheduled to make his next court appearance Dec. 18.
