PULLING UP FOR THREE — The College Football Playoff committee announced the four-team field that will compete for the 2017 national championship beginning New Year’s Day.
But while Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama will duel it out on the gridiron, the nation also turns its gaze indoors for the upcoming months.
Basketball season has arrived.

Springville freshman calls bank
Avery Nelson, a ninth grader at Springville Junior High, had a shot to remember last week against American Fork.
The freshman banked in a game-tying, three-quarter court heave at the end of regulation to send the Knights into overtime.

Even better? Springville went on to beat the Cavemen 41-38 in the extra period.
Spanish Fork junior high shooter does it, too
Not to be outdone, at roughly the same time, Spanish Fork Junior High shooter Macie Clark did almost the same thing — just six miles away.
Nonchalant from the one-handed heave to the teammates’ swarm immediately following the shot, Clark immediately heads to the bench and takes a swig from her water bottle.
No big deal, right?
Boise State does it again
Who let Boise State and Oregon play again?
There was a time when letting the Broncos and Ducks play each other on the football field ended in postgame fisticuffs, but the Las Vegas Bowl reps announced the two teams would play Dec. 16 at 1:30 p.m. MT to kick off the bowl season.
The game comes just weeks after Boise State’s latest shocker over Oregon — this one last Saturday on the basketball court
With four seconds left in a tie game, Boise State guard Lexus Williams threw up a prayer and silenced the home crowd in Eugene, Oregon with a half-court heave to give the Broncos a 73-70 win.

The victory ended Oregon’s 46 home win streak, the longest in the nation at the time, and caused pandemonium at midcourt.
