WEST VALLEY CITY — A boy is expected to recover after he was shot in an apparent drive-by shooting Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at 3191 W. Tess Ave. about 2:45 p.m., according to West Valley Police Sgt. Jay Horner.
Horner said there were a few individuals walking down a sidewalk when a vehicle pulled up and fired. The individuals inside the vehicle then fled the scene.
The boy, whom Horner said was a juvenile though he didn’t know the boy’s age, was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
It remained unclear Wednesday afternoon what relationship the shooter had with the individual shot. Police did not know if it was gang-related. Horner said police are searching for a gray-colored small passenger car.
Granite School District police are helping in the investigation because the shooting occurred across the street from Hillsdale Elementary School, though Horner said students had been let out for the day about 30 minutes before the shooting and it didn’t appear any students from the school were affected.
