MIDVALE — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman they say sifted through a man’s wallet and took a credit card before walking away while the man suffered a seizure at the store last week.
The incident happened at a 7-Eleven located at 6852 S. State Street on Oct. 4, Unified police detective Ken Hansen said. Video, which police released Friday, shows the woman standing over the man while he was on the floor and perusing through the wallet before walking away with a credit card.
The man involved in the incident, Dustin Malone, told KSL he felt something wasn't right healthwise as soon as he entered the store.
"Just as soon as I had walked in the door, I just started getting the tunnel vision and the normal 'aura,' as they call it," he said.
Soon after, everything became a blur for Malone.
“The next thing I knew, I was waking up with paramedics from Unified Fire Authority," he said.
After paramedics helped him, Malone noticed his wallet was missing. He and the store clerks went to watch the surveillance video, and was stunned when he saw the woman going through his wallet.
“My jaw hit the desk when I saw that,” Malone said. “I always said, 'nothing ceases to amaze me,' and then I saw that video."
Hansen said the woman was a regular customer at the store but hasn’t been seen since. He said the woman has a tattoo on her right arm. She was wearing a dark-colored shirt, light-colored shorts and sandals when she entered the store on Oct. 4.
Malone said he’s astonished someone would take advantage of someone during a medical emergency.
"As a healthcare provider, especially working with the elderly, nothing gets to me more than somebody who victimizes someone who is medically vulnerable like that,” he said. "To take advantage of somebody who was having a medical emergency, it's just a new low."
