MILLCREEK CANYON — Human bones found earlier this month in Millcreek Canyon belong to Blake Richardson, Unified Police said Wednesday.

Richardson, 24, had been missing since Dec. 10, 2016. On Oct. 5, Unified Police found bones near Dog Lake in Millcreek Canyon after a group of hikers reported discovering the bones.

About a mile and a half up the Big Water Trail, Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said crews found "a good portion" of remains, including a skull, that had mostly decomposed. They were brought to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for analysis.

Richardson, who had a history of mental illness, had walked away from the Salt Lake Behavioral Health Center with his dog. The dog was found in Millcreek Canyon on Dec. 16.
