TAYLORSVILLE — A 60-year-old man died late Saturday night after a car hit him and then drove off, police said.

Douglas Chavis was walking near 4774 S. Redwood Rd. in Taylorsville at about 10:24 p.m. Saturday, Unified Police Department Lt. Brian Lohrke said. He was using his walker to cross the street, walking west.

A young woman with dark hair was driving northbound on Redwood Road in a white 2001 Chevrolet Malibu when she hit Chavis and then drove off, Lohrke said in a news release.

The woman stopped briefly at the scene but then drove north and then west on 4700 South, according to Lohrke.

Unified Fire Authority crews treated Chavis, but then pronounced him dead at the scene, Lohrke said.

There was not a crosswalk in the area, and it was dark and rainy at the time, Lohrke said.

Police are still investigating and are still searching for the vehicle, Lohrke said. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 801-743-7000.
