LEHI — A Utah County family desperately wants back what was stolen from their special needs son.
The Bartons are in the process of moving and rented a storage unit at 946 W. 2100 North in Lehi to store some bulkier items in. But on Tuesday, when they went to go pick the items up, they noticed something wasn't right.
"It was obvious that someone had taken some stuff," Cami Barton said.
The thieves made off with $4,000 worth of the Bartons' belongings, including an adaptive bike for their son Will.
"He has a hard time with balance, so we were so excited that we found this bike for our family bike rides," Barton said. "He loved it."
The storage facility's security cameras recorded the suspects following a car into the gated area on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at around 6:30 p.m. Video shows a man and woman making off with the family's belongings in a white Dodge 4x4 with a University of Utah sticker on the back window.
Barton said it was heartbreaking that the thieves took such important items.
"We are so upset that someone thought, in broad daylight, they could break in and take all of our personal items, all of our memories," she said. "People just treated it like nothing."
If you recognize the suspects or have any information on the theft, call the Lehi Police Department at 801-766-5800.
