SALT LAKE CITY — Criminal charges were filed Tuesday against a Salt Lake woman accused of driving on the sidewalk and plowing into a group of people in a stolen vehicle, killing one and injuring five.

Shutney Lee Kyzer, 37, is charged in 3rd District Court with leaving the scene of an accident involving death, a third-degree felony; unauthorized control of a vehicle for an extended time, a third-degree felony; and driving on the sidewalk, an infraction.

Just after 6 p.m. on July 4, Kyzer drove onto the sidewalk near 425 W. 200 South and hit six pedestrians, according to charging documents. Kendra Griffis was pronounced dead at the scene. Five others suffered injuries ranging from broken femurs to fractured ribs, and hip and leg injuries.

Four of the victims were treated at the scene.

Kyzer yelled, "What did I do?" after the crash and ran, the passenger in the vehicle told police, according to court records.

Kyzer, who was on parole at the time of the collision, was tracked down by Adult Probation and Parole agents the next day. Prior to arresting her, agents talked to Kyzer's employer who said that she had called them "in an emotional, frantic state," and claimed that she was out of state and that her family would be picking up her last check, the charges state.

She also said "she had been in a crash and run over six people and one of them had died," according to charging documents.

Officials took Kyzer back to the Utah State Prison after arresting her.

In 2009, Kyzer was sentenced to one to 15 years in prison for burglary and kidnapping, according to court records. In 2014, she was convicted of possessing methamphetamine and Spice. Last year, Kyzer was convicted of assault for punching a fellow inmate.
