SANDY — Two people are in critical condition following a crash involving a car and a motorcycle Wednesday evening, according to the Unified Police Department.

The crash took place near 9754 S. Wasatch Boulevard around 8 p.m., according to Sandy Police Lt. Dean Carriger.

A Honda Civic was driving westbound on 9800 South and turned left into the path of a motorcycle heading east, striking the motorcycle, Carriger said.

The 46-year-old male driver of the motorcycle was airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center, and a female motorcycle passenger was transported to IMC by ground unit. Both were in serious condition and were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, Carriger said.

The driver of the Honda Civic, a 24-year-old man, was not hurt, but a female passenger in the car had minor injuries.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the crash, but police were investigating excessive speed as a factor, Carriger added.

No information was available regarding the identities of the people involved.
