SALT LAKE CITY — A 1-year-old boy was safely located Saturday night after the vehicle he was in was carjacked.

At about 9 p.m., a woman parked her car near 800 S. 900 West and left the boy in the vehicle while she briefly knocked on the door of a residence on that street, according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Robin Heiden. At that moment a man entered the car and drove off with the child still inside.

About 35 minutes later, the child was safely located at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in good condition, Heiden said.

Police were still searching for the car — a 2005, dark gray, four-door Nissan Altima, Saturday night. Heiden said there is a Utes decal on the gas cap of the vehicle and a crown sticker on the rear window.

Police described the man as being Hispanic and wearing a blue shirt.

Heiden said cases like this happen often in the winter but “you just never know when this could happen to you.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 801-799-3000.
