HILDALE, Washington County — There are now 12 confirmed cases of E. coli in a predominately polygamous community on the Utah-Arizona border, Utah health officials have reported.
Southwest Utah Public Health Department spokesman David Heaton said earlier in the month the outbreak mostly affected children, and all have received medical treatment.
Via a Facebook post, the department asked residents of Hildale as well as Colorado City and Centennial Park in Arizona, to take a survey to determine if anyone in the area has had diarrhea anytime since June 1 and has not received help.
Other symptoms of E. coli are fever, stomach cramps and vomiting.
The E. coli outbreak started at the beginning of July, and two children died from contamination.
The sister towns of Hildale and Colorado City are home to many members of the Fundamentalist LDS Church.
